All About Me I HAVE NOW TURNED PRO !!!!!!
My name is Andy Gardiner. I had an accident 9 years ago that had a massive impact on my life and left me in a wheelchair. I had suffered a severely broken leg ( 13 fractures between knee and ankle ) and due to further complications i ended up having a below knee amputation of my right leg. For the first 8 1/2 years i was only able to get around in a wheelchair and couldn't use a prosthesis. During this time i started target shooting and i have been a member of the national squad for 3 years with a view to being part of the GB Paralympic squad in Rio 2016. However after further surgery in feb 2011 i can now stand on a prosthesis and i have discovered a deep burning passion for golf, a sport that i never believed that i could have possibly done before my surgery. and so it was on a windy May afternoon in 2011 that i accompanied my friend to the driving range and took up his challenge to try and hit an annoyingly small white ball with a blooming great stick. I did, and i loved it and have not looked back since. I have just turned professional and competed in my first event at the Five Lakes Golf Resort in Essex on the Jamega Pro Golf Tour. I believe that this is a first for an amputee to compete as a pro and i am proud to break new ground for a massively talented group of british and european disabled golfers.
