Here is my view this morning and wonder caddy Dunkles in a very fetching caddy bib :-) relaxing before we go out.
Ok so the time had arrived to play in the biggest golf tournament in disabled golf and excited and nervous is the over-riding feeling as I approached the first tee. Plenty of rain ! Plenty of wind ! And a dodgy prosthetic leg, what on earth can go wrong :-). Slightly squeaky bum time on the first tee but a nice smooth drive down the l/h side of the fairway soon sorted that out. I started quite steady and knocked around a satisfactory 39 for the first 9 holes but then it was time to tackle the back half and this is where this course in Rø gets even tougher and particularly interesting. My driving and chipping were pretty much playing at 100% but I did let myself down with the putting again. Super dunk did his best to keep me on track and as usual was a demon on the bag, knowing just what I want, when I want it. The rest of the round seemed to pass in a bit of a blur, as it was so cold, windy and wet that it was a struggle to think about anything else other than keeping dry and warm. Anyways, when we counted up the score I was presently surprised to be sat in a tie for 6th position out of 94 competitors, so even with my unspectacular putting and a couple of silly little mistakes all is not lost and there is still a lot to play for with my aim of a top 10 finish looking possible.
I have got the same tee time tomorrow (9:40am) and they are hoping for better weather but I will wait and see about that :-). So that is day one completed and the monk is on plan for the time being, but this is a funny game, that can bite you on the bum quite quickly if you don't keep your focus and with 36 holes left I won't be counting any chickens just yet. :-). So till tomorrow............ Monk out x 22-9-12
Well, after leaving home at 3 am to get to heathrow and flying to Copenhagen, myself and wonder caddy Dunkles had to get an internal flight to the island of bornholm on a proper jalopy plane and I can assure you that I had plenty of squeaky bum times as the plane was an old propeller type and small so was being blown everywhere with turbulence. As you can gather, it did make it safely ( although my bum did try to eat my seat a few times :-) ) the accommodation is apartments and they are awesome !!! I am obviously sharing with super dunk and we also have mike in our apartment too so we will have plenty of laughs and jokes which is exactly what you need to disperse the nerves on these big events. So after a long journey and not a lot of sleep it is an early night in order. Practice day 23-9-12 Got to have my first look at the beast that will be the test to sort out the European champion and it is certainly not to be taken lightly. The course plays quite long and the premium is definately on putting the ball into the correct position from the tee and keeping out of the bunkers are a must as they are very deep and tough to play from. I had the pleasure of playing the practice round with a fellow Brit :-) ( mike lincoln ) and Manuel de Los santos and of course I had super dunk on the bag. I played well (75) and had a good look round the course so that me and dunk could get the caddy book up to scratch in preparation for day one of the tournament. All in all, I felt prepared and ready for the tournament and for whatever may happen. With 95 competitors from 15 nations the standard of golf here is fantastic and realistically I am hoping for a top ten finish and I will consider it mission accomplished. So for now bloggaroos, it's time for the monk to get into bed and dream of birdies :-) I will update after the first round is completed and will include a link for the live leader board. Monk out X Mr Tony Lloyd hitting a monster from the 17th tee at Bicester golf and country club. Unbelievable control and distance and the guy got no hands and little arms and ...... Oh just watch the video :-)
The legend tony Lloyd and the armless swing !! At Bicester golf and country club.
Well it had to happen didnt it, all golfers go through a dip in form and luck and the best golfers come back even stronger. Thats the plan anyway. after having two poor performances back to back in the swedish open and the british open i was ready to get my new leg, ( had 7 thick oversocks on with my old one, very very unstable !! ) and i hoped that when i got my new one i would hopefully be able to reproduce the golf from the start of the season. However, had i known the path getting my new leg would have taken i would have kept my old one and made do until the end of the season. After going through a total of 6 legs in 5 weeks i am now make to a newer version of my old leg !!! this whole palaver with legs means i havent played on course since the last round of the british open. with the european champs in a couple of days, i have not had the best preperation lol. Not having played for a while does take a little bit of pressure from myself as i dont have particularly high hopes so any result will be a bonus. i will have to just treat each round as a chance to get back in the rythmn of playing again and hopefully get back into the groove in time for another event i am playing in at five lakes golf course in essex in october.
i am having a game tomorrow with the fantastic mr Tony Lloyd ( England Capt ) and a few holes with the great pro from my course Jamie Ray Herbert, so i have got a chane to play and swing the bats before i go on saturday morning on my way to denmark. I will be accompanied in denmark by wonder caddy Super Dunk !! so i have got the A team behind me and spurring me on :-) i shall be updating as and when i can from denmark and hope to get plenty of pics and vids uploaded directly as the comp unfolds so stay tuned !!!! Also, a big announcement will be made on this site on October 1st so dont miss that either !! For now its time to get my stuff packed, cant wait to get back on the fairways. Look out people, the monk is hungry again, now, where did i put the A game ? lol see you soon bloggers monk out x |
