So the 2014 Dutch open is quickly coming up on us, it will be held again at the amazing BurgGolf resort and complex just north of Amsterdam. Again I will be defending my title from last year, however, I don't think it'll be that easy. The depth of quality in the competitors has grown greatly in the last three years, therefore I expect it to be a very difficult task to retain my title.
My preparation hasn't been brilliant for the Dutch open, as I'm recovering from a wrist injury that I suffered on my return from the Czech Republic. That's has impacted the amount of full swing in I could be doing this week, but it has allowed me to concentrate on practice my putting which is never a bad thing. Again I will be travelling to Holland with Duncan, but this time, he is not on the bag. In fact Duncan will be playing in the Stableford category as a birthday present. This will give Duncan a great insight, into playing in a European disabled tour event. I know Duncanis looking forward to playing alongside the disabled guys he has known for a couple of years, and hopefully they will go gentle on him, as they go round and play. (I bet they won't)
I know the course well, however it doesn't take away from the fact that water is in play on 15 of 18 holes. Water comes into play either on every tee shot or every approach or the green is guarded by a lake or streams. This is a tough course, but a very fair course if play properly. Both myself and Duncan will be travelling to Holland by car this time. Catching the late night ferry from Dover to Calais, before turning left and driving through Belgium up into northern Holland. I have also arranged, for Duncan to have a lesson, with a pro that I know in Holland, and we will also be having a game of golf on Saturday afternoon, so that Duncan can put into practice what he has learnt at his lesson. We will then be heading up to our competition hotel, before having a night on the tiles, to celebrate Duncan's birthday. I will of course be keeping my blog up-to-date daily , with results and standing so far at the Dutch open. So please keep checking back for up-to-date action.
I would like to thank my amazing sponsors and all of you wonderful supporters that give me the fire in my belly to keep competing.
For now
Monk out XX.

Czech disabled masters 2014 day two. Czech masters 2014 first round. So off I go to my first EDGA tour event of the year in the Czech Republic. As per usual the tournament is being played on the darovansky dvur golf resort just outside Pilsen. This year I am traveling with my caddy ( dunkles ) who will be on the bag for the comp. I am looking to make it a hat trick of wins and defend my title I won last year and in 2012. I like the course and the weather looks like it is going to be a lot friendlier than it was to us last year with temperatures in the mid 20's and only a 5-10% chance of rain. This should mean that the fairways are nice and firm and that the greens are running nice and quick and true. Well it is about time to go and grab dunkles and head to the airport to head off to Prague. I will be updating my blog daily whilst competing now that I have access back to my own site ;-) All the best peeps and check back soon for updates !! Monk out Golf buddy laser test. South Africa, just the name is enough to conjure up images of wild beasts roaming the planes, where the daily struggle for life is a brutal as it is beautiful, and somewhere that was definitely on my bucket list. Well this year I was lucky enough to be invited over to play in the 2014 South African disabled open and following that to captain the England team in the inaugural world cup of disabled golf, this was to be held at the amazing love golf's bar and Safari resort and was being organised by the South African disabled golf association. |
