Ok so it has been a good while since I've written a blog or any kind of update. Firstly for that, I apologise.
What have I been doing ?
Well, as the history books will show, this year has been one to forget performance wise for me. I haven't performed at all when it mattered in tournament play and I have been lacking that killer instinct that came so easy to me for the two preceding seasons. And, I will be the first to admit that the confidence took a big hit and as a consequence, the game started to get even worse !!! Perfect.
As I had not played well I didn't have the motivation to write another blog saying " oh yes, I blew it again " !
What I did was take my game back to basics and just start trying to get some confidence in striking the ball. Starting with the lob wedge and moving through the bag as the days went on and the striking got better.
I have played in a few events since and on the whole the play was ok. Yes there was some mistakes but certainly nothing like at the start of the year.
I have had the opportunity to play in Japan, USA, Italy and Portugal but unfortunately I wasn't able to go to any of these events due to lack of funds which doesn't help the positive mindset either ;-).
But I feel that the game is in a very nice place at the minute and with continued hard work and commitment and hopefully some sponsor investment then I can be fighting fit and ready to take my titles back next season and put them on my mantelpiece where they belong ;-)
So with my golf season at an end, I suppose you think I will be practicing then sitting on my backside all day waiting for next seasons onslaught but you would be wrong !!
Oh so very wrong !!
What I am actually doing is ....
Going to trek from Lukla to Mount Everest. !!
Yes, that does indeed say Mount Everest.
I have taken on the challenge of an 18 day trip to Nepal and to trek from The worlds most dangerous and heart stopping airport to the base camp of the highest point on earth in aid of a fantastic charity called children's Christmas Wishlist. A brilliant organisation that provides presents/holidays/wishes for terminally ill children.
So as you can see, I won't have much chance for a rest !!
We leave on Nov 17th and fly to Kathmandu before acclimatising for 2 days and flying up to Lukla ( check out YouTube for landing videos) to start the trek proper. We are looking at temps of -15 so it may be a bit chilly too ;-).
I was gobsmacked with the cost of kit needed to survive in such altitude and temperatures but the amazing outdoor specialists Blacks have heard about the Trek and couldn't wait to get on board and make sure that i had everything I needed to get my one legged butt up and back down again !!
I must admit that my backside is starting to get a bit twitchy now as it is less than 3 weeks before we fly out. It is not a thing to take on half heartedly that is for sure, but we have a great team and a very experienced leader ( who you will all meet later when the video blog starts ;-) )
So we should all get back in one piece,
Maybe :-)
So now you know what I have been at and what is coming up for me in the next few weeks then it will be Christmas and then time for the new season will be here before we know it.
As I said, my trek is not a jolly, it is in fact my attempt to raise a whole shed load of cash for a fantastic charity that does some amazing things. If you want to know more about what they do please google children's Christmas Wishlist.
If you would like to donate please visit www.justgiving.com/monktoeverest and spare anything you can !!
Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings, speak to you all very soon and thanks again for all the emails and questions, you guys taking your time to contact me and sending me your questions and comments makes all the hard work worthwhile !!
Remember, anyone can do anything if they just believe and work !
Till next time peeps !
Monk out !!
