So it nearly here, it is nearly time to leave. In just four days I will be attempting what is undoubtedly the hardest thing I have ever tried to do, getting to the base camp of Mount Everest.
I have packed, and repacked my kit bag three times now. And now I finally have everything I need all packed already to go passport in the bag as well.
All that is left to do is to make my way down to Heathrow airport on Monday and meet the rest of the team who are travelling to Nepal with me. There are four people that are on this track, doing it for the same charity as me , ( Children's Christmas Wishlist) , www.childrensxmaswishlist.org and the other guys are either doing it for their own self or maybe further different charity. I am honoured to be doing it for the WishList charity, as the work they do supporting terminally ill children and providing gifts for them at Christmas, Easter and they also make donations to hospices that deal solely with children at a hugely difficult time of their life.
This is certainly the furthest I have ever going to have walked since my accident, and to say that I'm a little nervous about it is probably the biggest understatement I could have ever just made. It is not just a distance that is bothering me, but also the subzero temperatures and obviously the lack of oxygen at altitude is something that I am going to have to contend with.
But,
It will make each step towards base camp easier knowing that I'm raising money for such a great charity. Golf has obviously had to be put on the back burner for the past couple of weeks and will be for the next few until I am back but from mid-December it should be all hopefully back to normal and I can get back into my training ready to hit the 2015 season hard and reclaim my place at the top of the European order of merit.
So with that it will update you now know what is going on and what I'm going to be doing over the next couple of weeks, please don't forget to keep an eye on my twitter feed and also this website where I will be trying to update as much as I possibly can, dependent on mobile phone coverage live from my trek to Everest base camp.
Very shortly there should also be a nice feature coming out about myself and what I've done in sports and how it helped me go from being in the depths of despair to as happy as I could be there will be running in the daily Mirror newspaper.
Please also don't forget, but you can sponsor me and make a donation for my trek, you can do this easily, by either texting Monk76 £10 to 70700 from your mobile or you can visit www.justgiving.com/monktoeverest and donate there. Please give anything you can, doesn't matter if it's pence or pounds that you can afford to give, it all helps !!!
I must also take this opportunity to say once again a massive thanks to www.blacks.co.uk for sorting me out with all the kit I will need for my trek !!
Many thanks guys and gals of blog land.
Speak soon !!
