So today and yesterday were training days for me at Southfields range. After my game the other day, I was working on the longer clubs in the bag with some wedges thrown in to mix it up a bit.
Whilst at the range both days I took the opportunity to break out the demo R1 that had arrived at the shop. It was fitted with the standard stiff shaft and I set it to 8.75 and 1deg closed with the weighting set up for a draw bias. What an absolute beast of a club. A good solid feel off the club face and for me, stupidly longer than my current Razr Fit.
Hmmmm
I had tested the R1 in Florida with Taylormade at the demo day but I honestly didn't expect the results to repeat themselves on my home range. I have duly reserved mine and of course, because of the gorgeous people at Fujikura composites, I have the brand new and lethal FUEL Shaft ready to replace the standard shaft. As I am seeing silly increases in ball carry and a significant improvement in dispersion already, to get the R1 with the FUEL will be incredible.
Also I am going to visit my club guy tomorrow and he is going to be performing a shaft transplant on my current R11 irons. He will be removing the Dynamic Gold S300 shafts I used last season and will be fitting the awesome KBS C Taper shafts. These in turn will be covered in some G-Rip A Tacs to complete my new look irons for the coming season.
I hope I can get my hands on the R1 and get the shaft transplant covered this week as I have a game with some good friends on Saturday and it will be great to break out the new and improved wonder sticks :-).
At the moment I am also having some great talks with a ball manufacturer an hopefully I can bring you some good news about that shortly ! Exciting times indeed.
Anyways, back to my practice.
I was hitting my little utility 5 wood beautifully, a nice strong flight that had a slight draw and checked up nice and quick. Same kind if result for the 3 wood so I was happy with that.
Had a good work on the 3-4-5 irons too , working on getting the Flight down a little into the wind and just concentrating on getting a good solid connection on the ball and making sure I kept a good rotation of the upper body to drive the club into the ball rather than hit at it. Had a good 30 minute session using the MYSP swing aid and that helped me get that connection I was after.
I was quite pleased with the results from there onwards and finished up with the wedges, and some nice tight grouping at 50-75-100 yards.
So , I'm like a child at Christmas at the minute because of the shaft transplant tomorrow !! I will obviously let you know the results just as soon as I'm able to get the babies swinging again.
Many thanks bloggists
